Arc de Triomphe opening hours
The Arc opens every day of the year except for occasional closures for official ceremonies. These are the hours published by the monument itself.
Opening times
| Wednesday to Monday | 10:00 - 22:30 |
|---|---|
| Tuesdays | 11:00 - 22:30 |
On Tuesdays it opens an hour later than usual. That is the classic mistake of anyone who assumes otherwise and turns up at ten.
Last admission is 45 minutes before closing time. Arrive later than that and you will not be allowed up, even with a ticket already bought.
Closing days
The monument closes, fully or partly, on the dates of official ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: 1 and 8 May, 14 July and the morning of 11 November. It can also close at short notice for institutional events or bad weather, since the terrace is open to the sky. If you travel on one of those dates, check the official site the day before.
The best time to go up
Golden hour, forty minutes before sunset, is when the Champs-Élysées turn orange and La Défense stands out on the horizon. Stay up a while longer and you will see the lights come on along the twelve avenues and, on the hour, the Eiffel Tower sparkle for five minutes. Mid-morning is quieter with better light facing east, but you miss that moment.
