Who gets into the Arc de Triomphe free?
Plenty of people pay when they did not have to, almost always because they did not bring the document that proves it. Here are the cases and the paperwork to show.
Under 18s
Free entry, whatever their nationality. If travelling with family, you still need to collect their free ticket at the desk or carry the child's ID.
Aged 18 to 25 with EU nationality
This is the most commonly missed one. If you are between 18 and 25 and a national of any European Union country, you pay nothing. It also covers non-EU legal residents in France. You must show your ID card or passport: without it you pay the full rate, however young you look.
Visitors with a disability
Free entry for the visitor and one companion, on presentation of the relevant card or certificate. Note that the monument's lift is under maintenance and access to the terrace is by stairs only.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
It lies under the vault at street level, and seeing it costs nothing and needs no ticket. The flame is rekindled every evening at 18:30 in a short ceremony open to anyone. What you pay for is going up to the terrace.
In every case you must show proof at the entrance: an ID card, passport or the relevant certificate. Without it you pay the standard rate, so carry it even if your age is obvious.
